First Week Back in Pines

12th January 2023L Calder

This week in Pines we have settled back into routines, we enjoyed sharing our holiday news and each wrote a thank you letter to Santa.

In science we have started learning about seasons, we matched pictures of the seasons and learnt about Winter the season we are in now. We enjoyed some sensory fun making snow and decorated pine cones to make a pine tree.

In art we have been looking at and matching weather motifs as we prepare to create our own in the coming weeks.

We enjoyed saying Happy New Year to our PE coach Adam and learnt some football skills!

More Christmas Fun in Pines…

22nd December 2022L Calder

In Pines we have had lots of fun doing lots of Christmas craft activities and learning Christmas dance routines. We enjoyed a Christmas dinner together and had a great time playing in the snow- we were great friends pulling each other on the sledges!

In maths we have been sequencing events so we made a tasty jam sandwich and sequenced the steps. We have been learning about shapes and size and used our sorting skills to sort shapes that are big and small.

In the last week we said goodbye to Buddy the elf who made us some snowflakes.  We also had a pyjama day watching Christmas cartoons and eating our reindeer crispy cakes we made in cookery.

A  fabulously festive time in Pines!

It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas in Pines Class…

12th December 2022L Calder

In Pines we have been decorating our classroom, we even made our own bauble and reindeer decorations for our tree! We each decorated a letter to make our Merry Christmas bunting and every morning everyone patiently waits their turn to open the door on our advent calendar.

In literacy we have been learning about prepositions, we were able to move Santa around the classroom following instructions and then we could each describe where our naughty elf was hiding using words like ‘on’, ‘in’ and ‘under’. We have also been learning about shapes in maths so we used our cutting skills to create a 2D Christmas tree and drew a picture of who lives in our house.

We also had a brilliant craft session with Blossoms class to begin creating a game for our Christmas stall at the fair, we enjoyed being creative with new friends!

We have listened to football themed stories and In maths we have been looking carefully to count goals. For our life skills work this week we have been practising making toast, we each put our toast in the toaster, buttered it and enjoyed eating it around the table with our friends.

Anti Bullying Week and Children in Need in Pines

23rd November 2022L Calder

To start anti-bullying week it was odd socks day, we each designed our own paid of odd socks and we talked about how important it is to be a good friend, we worked as a team to sort the pictures of being a good friend and not a good friend.

We have been reading stories about Pudsey bear and used our colourful semantics to write sentences about what was happening in the scenes. In art we worked collaboratively using different mediums to create a giant Pudsey for our classroom window. In maths we had to use our fine motor skills to pick up the counters and place the correct amount of spots on Pudsey’s bandana. In cookery, we followed the steps to create Pudsey biscuits. We each took turns to mix, roll and cut the dough and to decorate Pudsey in our own style!

Road Safety in Pines

23rd November 2022L Calder

In Pines we have been learning about road safety, a special visitor came in to show us how to cross roads safely. We even had the chance to dress up as a lollipop person and use the stop sign!  We were all excellent waiting for our turn, we each pressed the button, waited for the green man and listened for the beep so we could cross the road safely.

Remembrance Week in Pines

23rd November 2022L Calder

For remembrance in Pines we have been looking at the different coloured poppies and what they are for, we used our PECS to match the colour to the poppy. We each made a poppy for our poppy field in school which we placed in the ground ourselves, we also used our cutting skills to create our own poppies following a model. We even used poppies to help us with our counting and fine motor skills this week, we had to use tweezers to count the correct number of cubes onto the poppy. We enjoyed ending the week by making a poppy biscuit in cookery and taking part in the 2 minute silence- we are so proud of how excellent Pines children were during the silence!

What a Great First Half Term!

10th November 2022A Hearn

It has been a very busy half term in Pines and everyone has made a huge amount of progress! We are enjoying our Childhood topic we have read ‘Chicken Licken’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We have been focusing on learning more about ourselves like how old we are and where we live. In History we have looked at how we have changed since we were a baby and a toddler and looked at important events in our childhood like our birthdays and christenings in the past. In maths we have been learnings lots about numbers including ordinal numbers- we enjoyed having races to see who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd!

Our DT topic this term has been shelters, we made some great Lego houses and enjoyed watching the wolf huff and puff and blow the houses down in the Three Little Pigs! In art we have been colour mixing, we had lots of messy fun experimenting with the colours and then made a colour wheel together. In RE we have been learning about churches, we have been experiencing hymns and candles together.
