Wonderful Writing

3rd January 2021E Kincaid

This half term Maples class have been working very hard on their writing skills. They read lots of stories, created story maps to help them retell the story then changed parts such as characters, settings and events to create their own fantastic version. They tried very hard to use the sounds that they know to help them with their writing, made sure every sentence had a capital letter and full stop and tried to use some exciting adjectives in their writing. Fabulous job Maples!

Join The Celebration

16th December 2020A Barnes

We have had a busy but fantastic half term in Orange Group.  Our topic this term has been ‘Join the Celebration’ as we have learned and celebrated Halloween, Bonfire Night where we learned how to build fires and stay safe, Remembrance Sunday, Diwali and finally lots of Christmas activities, where we have decorated the Christmas tree, filmed our nativity performance, made Christmas cards, calendars and baubles.

Christmas Card Circuits

16th December 2020Mrs Storey

Chestnuts have been using their Science knowledge in D.T. to design and make light-up Christmas cards.  We came up with a design criteria for our Christmas cards (including having a Christmas theme, writing Merry Christmas and including the colour red) and discussed how we could make the card light up.  We used copper tape for the wire in our circuits and followed a template.  The folding was tricky!! We then attached a battery for our power source and an led bulb for the light.  All of the children knew that the light would only work if there was a complete circuit with no breaks.  The cards were beautiful and they all lit up! Well done Chestnuts!

Cherries Autumn 2

16th December 2020H Warburton

This half term Cherries topic has been Let’s Celebrate!

We have learned about bonfire night and read the story Sparks Fly in Literacy. We made our own firework pictures on the computer and with paint by dipping and twist toilet roll holders.

Our next celebration was Remembrance day, we completed poppy jigsaws, painted cake cases to make poppies and used red icing and chocolate buttons to make poppy biscuits.

We then learned about Diwali and read the story Dipal’s Diwali. We sequenced the story and used colourful semantics to make sentences about the story. We made Diva Lamps and explored lights and scents in Science.

We then celebrated Christmas and read the story Ten Little Lights. We were excellent as identifying the animals either verbally or using symbols. We also had great fun helping to decorate our class Christmas tree!

A very busy half term.
