Parent/Carer digital drop-in session from Google and Parent Zone:

Now we’re back to lots of screen time, you might be worrying about the risks for your child – and the possibility that their friendships aren’t going as well as they should.

On Monday 1st February at 5.30pm, Google/Parent Zone are running a drop-in on YouTube for Children’s Mental Health Week. Whether you are anxious about cyberbullying or just interested in supporting your child’s online communication, their experts can help.

SEND Parent Carer Forum for South Tyneside

A new Parent Carer Forum has been introduced in South Tyneside.

South Tyneside Parent Carer Forum is an independent forum led by parents, for parents and carers of children and young people aged 0-25 with additional support needs and disabilities in South Tyneside. They work in partnership with commissioners and service providers across health, social services and education.

The aim of the Forum is to enable parents and carers to share their knowledge of what works and what doesn’t work so well; to help service providers and commissioners focus their efforts on effective, high quality support. They do this by ensuring that family voices are heard by service planners and decision makers.

They also aim to signpost parents to advice and information, to help them through their journey as carers of a disabled child or young person.

NetAware is supported by the NSPCC and O2 and have a range of information about how you can keep your children safe online. They have a feature which allows you to search for a particular app, game or social media site that your child may be using. You can also view all that they have listed.

NetAware have reviewed each app, game and social media site as well as giving you ‘top tips’ on how to stay safe when using any of them.

You can also register with the site to receive emails on the latest trends in apps and games.

TikTok’s Privacy Controls

TikTok has recently tightened its privacy controls for under 16’s. TikTok is a social media platform that lets you create, share and discover 60 second videos. You can use music and effects to enhance your videos and you can also browse other people’s videos and interact with them. TikTok’s age rating is 13+ so it is not recommended for children under 13 years of age.
