Please see our weekly school newsletter for Friday 19th March:
This week to celebrate World Maths Day Orange Group listened to 10 black dots by Donald Crews and created our own drawings. We counted the number of dots we wanted and added the black dots required.
For Comic Relief in Cherries we decorated 6 red noses using different styles of art.
We then played bowling with Red Noses and went fishing for red noses using different sized spoons.
On World Maths Day Lemons class looked at paintings from the artist Paul Klee. We enjoyed finding lots of different shapes in the pictures.

We then had fun exploring with different shapes and used plastic shapes to make pictures of different things.
Finally we used foam shapes to recreate Paul Klee’s ‘Castle and Sun’ painting.
On Monday 15th March for World Maths Day, we listened to a story, ’10 Black Dots’, about how 10 dots can be arranged in different ways to represent different things.

10 Black Dots posters
We went on to explore number bonds to 10, finding as many ways as possible to make 10 using addition and subtraction.
We also made posters for numbers using the correct amount of black dots.
We explored the art work of Paul Klee, who used a lot of shapes in his pictures. We then made our own shape pictures and explored the vocabulary of shape.
It was a great day. We had lots of fun exploring how maths is used in lots of different ways.
This week to celebrate World Maths Day we played guess the number headbands where we had to use our detective skills to work out the number on our heads. We did some art work in the style of Mondrian using lines and the three primary colours. We even enjoyed a game of Monopoly!
Cherries completed some fantastic shape work for Maths Day. We created graphs looking at different shapes and colours. Then practised our cutting skills creating a rocket out of different shapes.

In Apples class we looked at the artist Mondrian. We discussed how we could see rectangles, squares and triangles inside the heart. Using a ruler, we carefully drew lines vertically and horizontally in our hearts to create a range of shapes. We chose four main colours to paint the shapes with but chose to leave some shapes blank, so the coloured shapes became a focus point. We enjoyed making sure we had to keep the paint within the lines, so our individual shapes look really clear. We had fun learning maths through art!
We celebrated Maths Day by exploring a range of maths games in our activity areas, then using our measuring skills to create a Mondrian-inspired piece of art.
