Cherries Summer 1

24th May 2022H Warburton

This half term Cherries started our topic of Magnificent Monarchs. We have been learning lots about the Queen. We have read lots of books about the Queen including The Queen’s Hat and The Queen’s Handbag. We have retold the stories and looked at naming and matching London landmarks from the story.

In Science we have been learning about growth, we planted sunflowers in class and have been measuring and observing their growth over the weeks.

We celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with lots of great activities, including decorated biscuits red, white and blue, joining Willows class for some games and enjoyed a picnic on the main school field.

Summer Term 1

24th May 2022A Tod

This half term Willows have started their new topic of Emperors and Empires, learning all things Ancient Rome! Our class book has been Roman Tales: The Goose Guards, by Terry Deary.

In English they have carried out their own research online to write a non-chronological report about the Romans. They also used their imaginations to write a mythical story based on Roman myths. I was so impressed with their creativity!

Willows classroom transformed into a Roman Museum to kickstart our new topic! The children had to purchase a ticket and then enter the museum to record their ideas about each Roman artefact they came across.

In maths, the children have been learning about money, shapes, fractions and mass. To understand 3D shapes a little better the children worked together to construct different 3D shapes using plasticine and straws as well as modelling them using cubes.

‘Exploring the World of Plants’ has been this half term’s focus for science. The children have learnt about; seed dispersal, how water is transported around a plant, how plants, like potatoes, reproduce and vascular and non-vascular plants. The children also became scientists and carried out their own investigation to find areas where moss grows around the school playground.

Jubilee Celebrations

24th May 2022G Mills

Sycamores finished the first half of the Summer term celebrating the Queen’s jubilee.

Our Queen has now been on the throne for over 70 year. What a great achievement!

In class, we have created some lovely artwork including Queen pop art, crowns and bunting/flags.

We also had a jubilee party, where we played games and had a celebration picnic on the field.

Look at our photos…

Mental Health Awareness Week

9th May 2022A Hearn

The theme of the 2022 Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘Loneliness’. Loneliness is affecting more and more of us in the UK and has had a huge impact on our physical and mental health during the pandemic. Our connection to other people and our community is fundamental to protecting our mental health, and we need to find better ways of tackling widespread feelings of loneliness – and we can all play a part in this.

Reducing loneliness is a major step towards creating a mentally healthy society, so the theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is aimed at raising awareness of the impact of loneliness on our mental wellbeing and the practical steps we can take to address it.
