Chestnuts and Willows Sports Afternoon

22nd July 2021A Tod

On Tuesday 13th July both of our year 4 classes, Chestnuts and Willows, took part in their sports afternoon. Sports coach Adam had prepared lots of fun and exciting events for the children.

The events were: Sprinting, ‘Egg and spoon’, Obstacle race and a rounders match. All of the children gave the events their all and had so much fun taking part. Even the teachers got to join in!

Have a look at them in action…

Summer 2 Round Up in Willows

22nd July 2021A Tod

In this last half term the children have been busy as usual. They have been reading the book Cool by Michael Morpurgo in their English lessons. They have really enjoyed reading this book and have used it to write character descriptions, newspaper reports, complaint letters and non- chronological reports about football teams and footballers.

They have been learning about London in their geography lessons, using pointillism to create pictures in art, exploring plants, light and famous scientists in science as well as learning how to tell the time using both digital 12 and 24 hour clock times.

Without a doubt, this year has been eventful, unpredictable and bizarre!

However, what has been amazing is the flexibility and resilience of the children. They have had to adapt to new rules within school as well as changes outside of it. I have been totally impressed by their fantastic attitudes to ever changing situations and with how they have dealt with new situations.

I wish Willows the best of luck for Year 5.

Fun in the Sun

21st July 2021A Hearn
Apples class has been making the most of the summer sun with lots of outdoor activities.
On Sports Day, we showed off our running, jumping, kicking and throwing skills by taking part in activities such as hockey, basketball, tennis and an obstacle course.
As part of our Year 6 Leavers celebrations, we took to the yard for a water fight.  It was so much fun soaking our friends and a super way to beat the heat!
We also had a Pets Day, and welcome pets such as the school dog and guinea pigs Honey Bunny and Strawberry to our class.
It has been a fantastic year and we are definitely ending on a high!

Olympics!

19th July 2021L Calder

This half term our topic in Plums has been the Olympics. We have learned lots about the difference between the ancient Olympics and Modern Olympics. We really enjoyed watching the Opening ceremonies and even made our own opening ceremony! In Literacy we have enjoyed reading some Greek myths, especially Hercules. Here are some photographs of some of the exciting things we have been up to…

We made some Olympic torches and worked together to collage the Olympic rings.

We have taken part in lots of different challenges to earn 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals.

We made javelins with Blueberries and tested them to see who’s went the furthest!

We made a crown of leaves and made the Olympic rings out of lego.

We used a printing technique to re-create a famous Olympic painting by an artist called Rachel Whiteread.

We have had lots of fun and wish all the athletes luck in the Tokyo 2021 Olympics!

Cherries Summer 2

16th July 2021H Warburton

This half term our topic has been Parks and Playgrounds. In Literacy we have been reading Percy the Park Keeper books, ordering the story, using colourful semantics to retell the story and writing sentences about the story. We have also played lots of I spy using park pictures.

In Maths we have been identifying heavy and light objects and turned ourselves into human scales to say if an object was heavy or light.

Our sports day was a carousel of activities using skills we have been practising all year. We used hockey sticks, cricket bats, footballs and basketballs. We then cooled off afterwards with an ice lolly.

We ended our topic with a trip to Hedworthfield park, it was lovely and sunny and we had lots of fun.
