Burns Night Activities in Pines

26th January 2023L Calder

This week in Pines we have been learning about Burns Night, we enjoyed listening to some bagpipes and playing a game of Burns Night Bingo. We also designed our own tartan and made a tartan kilt using our weaving skills to develop our fine motor. In cookery we made delicious Scottish shortbread and were great at taking turns to weigh, mix and roll!

In science we have continued to learn about seasonal changes and created some autumn trees using finger painting to create the red, yellow and orange leaves. In DT this week we have been using mobilo to create vechiles, aren’t they great!

Engineering in Design and Technology

20th January 2023S Graham

Following on from our initial work on bridges and structures we carried out a range of activities which looked at how to strengthen, stiffen and reinforce structures.

We enjoyed making bridges out of paper, making predictions and testing to see how many 2p coins they could support.

We evaluated our findings and looked at why some folds in paper made the bridges stronger.

In DT, Chestnuts have been learning about healthy snacks.

We created our own packaging boxes, using different nets of shapes.

Then, we made and tasted heathy snacks including: hummus and carrot sticks/breadsticks, vegetable crisps, fruit skewers and air-popped popcorn.

Finally, we planned our own healthy snack which we could take to school.
