This half term in Cherries our topic has been Summertime. We have been learning all about hot and cold items and packing a suitcase for a hot and cold holiday. We also kept a weather chart for a week looking outside to see the weather every morning and afternoon (it was very rainy!)

Cherries Autumn 2

16th December 2020H Warburton

This half term Cherries topic has been Let’s Celebrate!

We have learned about bonfire night and read the story Sparks Fly in Literacy. We made our own firework pictures on the computer and with paint by dipping and twist toilet roll holders.

Our next celebration was Remembrance day, we completed poppy jigsaws, painted cake cases to make poppies and used red icing and chocolate buttons to make poppy biscuits.

We then learned about Diwali and read the story Dipal’s Diwali. We sequenced the story and used colourful semantics to make sentences about the story. We made Diva Lamps and explored lights and scents in Science.

We then celebrated Christmas and read the story Ten Little Lights. We were excellent as identifying the animals either verbally or using symbols. We also had great fun helping to decorate our class Christmas tree!

A very busy half term.

Cherries Autumn 1

22nd October 2020H Warburton

This half term Cherries topic has been ‘Magnificent Me!’ We have all settled back into school well and love our new classroom. We enjoy using our own outdoor space to enhance our learning, such as water play or writing with chalks.

In PE with Adam we have been practising running around cones, weaving through cones, running in hula hoops and jumping over hurdles. We are able to complete these very independently.

We have been learning all about plants in Science, labelling their parts, what helps them grow and planting some of our own seeds.

In Art we used a mirror to look at our faces to draw an accurate self-portrait. Our drawings were amazing! Using the correct eye and hair colours and some of us even drew our hairstyles.

We have also loved having Lenny, the school dog, in our class. Our confidence is growing in touching him and some of us love to hold his lead when we take him for a walk.

A fun and busy half term!

Homeschooling Fun!

29th June 2020l Mitchinson

The boys in Cherries have been working and playing hard at home while school is closed. As well as completing their work tasks, they have been trying hard to improve their life skills and independence, doing household chores, cooking with family, decorating the house, working in the garden – they have been really busy! It’s good to have the time to develop those skills important to everyone as they grow up, and I’ve been really proud hearing how the boys are looking after themselves too – getting dressed, cleaning teeth, preparing their own snacks – the list goes on!

We will also be learning about the artists LS Lowry and Vincent Van Gogh as we work on improving our observational drawing. We look forward to an exciting term!
