Sycamores had a great World Book Day.
Look at some of the amazing costumes…
What a busy half term it has been in Willows!
There has been so much going on and lots of great learning has happened.
The children have been reading The Great Kapok Tree in English and linked this to their Rainforests topic. They have produced some fantastic pieces of writing such as; rainforest setting descriptions using the 5 senses and they carried out their own research about a rainforest animal to write a non-chronological report about it.
Science this half term has been all about plants. The children have carried out an investigation to explore the ideal conditions for a plant to grow strong and healthy, explored the parts of a flowering plant and found out about the process of pollination.
At the start of this half term we celebrated Remembrance Day. Using Purple Mash software, Willows created some Remembrance themed pictures.
During the run up to the Christmas holidays, the children went to see the pantomime, had a Christmas jumper day and enjoyed a Christmas dinner too!

Bonjour!
On 12th November the whole school participated in an afternoon dedicated to all things French.
In Willows the children had a go at learning some well-know French songs. They gave their best efforts to learning ‘head, shoulders, knees and toes’ and the actions too!
We then explored the colours and made our own rainbows… or rather arc en ciel.
We learnt about France and some of its most famous landmarks and traditions.
To end our afternoon we had a French feast with the children being very brave and trying some (rather smelly!) camembert cheese.
Say Cheese!

se….
Chestnuts have settled extremely well into Year 5 life and have taken it all in their stride. We have been using Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as our class text and have linked our English and Art through it. In English we have been writing diaries as we journey to Hogwarts for the first time, have created instructions for making a potion and have written an adventure story for rescuing a stolen object from the Forbidden Forest! In Art, we have focused on adding texture and thinking about scale and proportion when sketching. We hope you like our art from the photograph! In History, we have found out about history in our local area, the impact of the Industrial Revolution on the North East and have studied specific jobs such as Mining. Excellent work Chestnuts!
In science this term, Sycamores have been learning about the reproduction of plants and animals.
We went out into the school grounds to take plant clippings. We then placed them in water and we’re hoping they will sprout roots, before we can plant them in compost and grow identical clones of the original plant.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you for your responses to the RSE (Relationship Sex Education) questionnaire. Overall, the responses were very positive. The full results are attached below.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Mills
This consultation begins on Tuesday 6th July 2021 and will close on Tuesday 13th July 2021.
Dear Parents/Carers,
As a part of your child’s educational experience at Fellgate Primary School, we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that gives children and young people the knowledge, under-standing, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.
As you may already be aware, the Department for Education has announced changes to relationships and sex education (RSE) following nationwide consultation. All schools will be required to comply with the updated requirements. Statutory guidance can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education
The new guidance focuses on healthy relationships and keeping children safe in the modern world. It also covers a wide range of topics relating to physical and mental health, wellbeing, safeguarding and healthy relationships.
Consequently, Relationships, along with Health Education, will be statutory, and form part of the National Curriculum. The DfE continue to recommend that all primary schools should have a sex education programme tailored to the age and the physical and emotional maturity of the pupils. This means that we have been reviewing our RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) curriculum and policy so we can be sure our provision is appropriate for our pupils
Can you please spend some time looking at the documents (attached below) and answer the questions on this questionnaire? https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdExrYkQxcskKlHLQiXJoulPEmU1iLaoYF9Obyf3Vtuixs9wQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
It should only take you a few minutes. Your views are very important to us and we would appreciate your responses.
If you have any queries regarding the consultation process, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Mills
