In DT, Sycamores tasted chocolates already available on the market to buy; then we designed our own; before having great fun with lots of ingredients to make them. Afterwards, we ate them. They were delicious!
During March, we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. We also listened to stories and read to each other. We had a fantastic day!
The children in Lemons have thoroughly enjoyed World Book Day. We went in search of different characters from traditional tales.

We also enjoyed sharing different books with our friends from Plums.
Children in Blueberries and Plums had a fantastic opportunity to work with an artist at The Baltic and create their own exhibition. Over 3 sessions the children used skills such as moulding, paper mache, using cocktail sticks and shredded paper to create fur and using a hole punch to create scales, as well as many other techniques.
We all enjoyed attending the grand opening and seeing the artwork on the wall! Thank you to all parents and carers who joined us.
The exhibition is fantastic and is available to visit on level 2 of The Baltic until January.
In Autumn term 2 our topic is The Ice Age and we have had lots of fun within History and Geography. We started our topic with an escape room challenge where we had to read information to gain clues to break the code to escape for break time.We then researched lots of facts and made our own individual non-fiction book.
We learned a lot about how homosapiens communicated with each other through drawing and then created our own cave drawings.

During the Autumn term, Sycamores have been on two class trips. As part of our ‘Rivers’ topic, we travelled to Newcastle where we walked along the Quayside of the River Tyne completing different geography fieldwork activities. We studied the land use and how it has changed over recent years. We then walked up to the Discovery Museum where we explored the River Tyne exhibitions. We had great fun!
To end our topic, we went to Sunderland where we visited the Winter Gardens and Museum. We took part in a workshop all about the River Wear. The workshop leader was so interesting and showed us lots of artefacts connected to the history of the river. Her family had lived in Sunderland for many generations so she told many fantastic stories.

Parent Activity
In Maples we invited our parents in to help us build London Town. We used boxes and straw and paint. We had lots of fun building, sticking and painting.
We have had a great start to the year in Blueberries. Our topic was ‘Tales With a Twist’. We have read some fun stories in Literacy such as The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, Prince Cinders and Princess Smartypants. We retold them and even wrote our own version of a twisted tale.
In Maths we have been learning about right angles, acute angles and obtuse angles, clockwise and anti-clockwise and have been interpreting data from pictograms, tally charts and bar charts.
We have learned lots of painting skills in art, such as mixing with white and black, using happy and sad colours and creating work in the style of Pablo Picasso. We also had a fantastic opportunity to attend three sessions at The Baltic for an art workshop to create an exhibition. Check out our amazing animals!
In History we have been learning all about Queen Victoria. We used a variety of sources to research information and create our own fact files. Did you know her first name wasn’t even Victoria? It was Alexandrina.
In ICT we have been working on our word processing skills using Microsoft Word. We can type using correct punctuation, save our work and then retrieve it to edit at a later date.
A very busy half term full of lots of learning!
