Movers and Shakers!

10th December 2021S Wilkinson

This half term Oranges have been learning all about different movers and shakers including explorers, activists, monarchs and artists.

Some of the significant people we have learned have included Neil Armstrong and Rosa Parks. The children enjoyed becoming explorers and finding a space suit hidden on the main school yard. They then found out more information about his life and sequenced what had happened to him. Did you know Neil Armstrong was a pilot before he became an astronaut?

Whilst learning about the activist Rosa Parks, the children discovered how just because Rosa was different, she was not treated the same and this was not fair.

The children used drama to act out what happened to Rosa on the bus when she refused to give up her seat and talked about how it made them feel.

In Literacy this half term, the children have been using both colourful semantics to help construct sentences and orally constructing sentences. They have also tried very hard to answer simple retrieval questions.

In Maths, the children have been developing their counting, addition, sorting, subtraction and shape skills.  We have even been learning how to tell the time to the hour.

This half term we have also been working very hard on learning our letter sounds and how to blend sounds to read words.

This half term the children have also been demonstrating their following instructions and taking turn skills during cookery. The children have followed recipes to make poppy biscuits, space rock cakes and chocolate sparklers.

In PE the children have been navigating around different obstacle courses which have challenged the children to travel in different ways.

A great half term of learning by our amazing Oranges!

Marvellous Me – Autumn 1

22nd October 2021A Barnes

Our new Lemons class have had a fabulous and fun filled time settling into school this half term. In phonics we have worked incredibly hard at learning lots of new sounds. In maths we have explored numbers, added two groups together and identified 2d and 3d shapes. We have also explored our senses, places of interest in the local area and created a family tree. As well as lots of opportunities for Child Initiated Learning.

Get in the Zone!

22nd October 2021l Mitchinson

Blueberries are getting very good at using the Zones of Regulation to describe and identify feelings. We have a class Toolkit which gives us strategies when we need to get back into the Green Zone. We use a lot of visual supports which help us manage our emotions at different times.

Meet Ollee: A digital friend for 8-11 year olds

18th October 2021A Hearn

Ollee is a digital friend for children aged 8-11 – created by Parent Zone and funded by BBC Children in Need’s A Million & Me initiative.

It helps them explore feelings around school, family, friends and the world – and share advice with a parent or trusted adult.

Video: Meet Ollee

Children can tell Ollee how they’re feeling and it will give them ideas about what to do. If they’re not sure, Ollee will help them figure it out.

Together, parents and children can share Ollee’s advice and talk about feelings together through connected accounts.

Try it out now in a web browser or download the app to your device.

Keeping Your Child Safe Online

Keeping Children Safe online over the Summer Holidays with CEOP

Children and young people can continue to report concerns to CEOP’s safety centre over the summer break. If they’re worried about online sexual abuse or the way someone has been communicating with them online, they can let CEOP know and speak to one of our child protection advisers.

There is also lots of information and advice on CEOP’s parents and carers website to help keep your children safer online over the holiday such as:

  •  Are you worried about something which has happened online?
  •  Reporting to social media sites
  •  7 questions parents ask about nude selfies
