This half term Oranges have been learning all about different movers and shakers including explorers, activists, monarchs and artists.
Some of the significant people we have learned have included Neil Armstrong and Rosa Parks. The children enjoyed becoming explorers and finding a space suit hidden on the main school yard. They then found out more information about his life and sequenced what had happened to him. Did you know Neil Armstrong was a pilot before he became an astronaut?
Whilst learning about the activist Rosa Parks, the children discovered how just because Rosa was different, she was not treated the same and this was not fair.
The children used drama to act out what happened to Rosa on the bus when she refused to give up her seat and talked about how it made them feel.
In Literacy this half term, the children have been using both colourful semantics to help construct sentences and orally constructing sentences. They have also tried very hard to answer simple retrieval questions.

In Maths, the children have been developing their counting, addition, sorting, subtraction and shape skills. We have even been learning how to tell the time to the hour.
This half term we have also been working very hard on learning our letter sounds and how to blend sounds to read words.
This half term the children have also been demonstrating their following instructions and taking turn skills during cookery. The children have followed recipes to make poppy biscuits, space rock cakes and chocolate sparklers.
In PE the children have been navigating around different obstacle courses which have challenged the children to travel in different ways.
A great half term of learning by our amazing Oranges!
