World Book Week in a Sycamores

28th May 2021G Mills

Fellgate celebrated World Book Week during the first half of the summer term (Week beginning 23.5.21).

Sycamores worked with Apples class (virtually) to write a fantastic story about two children being shipwrecked on a desert island.

We also made bookmarks and turned stories into cartoon strips.

Towards the end of the week, we hot seated characters and dramatised scenes from our class reading book “Ratburger”.

At the end of the week, we all dressed up as our favourite book characters.

Spring 2 in Sycamores!

1st April 2021G Mills

Since returning to school after lockdown, Sycamores have filled their days with lots of fun and learning.

We celebrated World Maths Day by reading a book called “The Lion’s Share” about fractions. We linked this story to our work and also produced some Celtic patterns, which were extremely difficult!

On Red Nose Day we all dressed in red and learned about less unfortunate people who benefit from the money raised. We told jokes to each other and laughed lots.

As part of our South Africa topic, we created animal printing in art. We looked at animal skins and then made printing blocks using thick card and sponges. Eventually we created a printed pattern. They looked great!

We also read “Journey to Jo’Burg” which was a thought provoking book about racism and equality. We learned lots about Nelson Mandela and the lives of South African people in the past. We realised how lucky we are today!

For Easter, we made Easter cards and decorated eggs – as well as learning about the real meaning of Easter.

Look at the some of the great photos we have taken this term…

Spring Term (1st half) in Sycamores…

20th February 2021G Mills

Due to a national lockdown, many Sycamores have been working from home (as well as the children in school).

We have been working hard in maths on fractions, measures and developing our arithmetic skills.

In English, we have written newspapers, diaries, explanations and non-chronological reports.

We also started our new topic about the Mayans.

We have recognised Mental Health Week and World e-safety day.

Below is a selection of excellent work completed:

Sycamores – Autumn 2 2020

16th December 2020G Mills

Sycamores have had a great second half of Autumn term!

Our topic has been about the UK. We have completed lots of map work, where we have named the countries, counties and major cities across the entire UK. We have also looked at how land use has changed over time in our local area.

For Remembrance Day, we created some beautiful soldier silhouette poppy artwork.

For Children in Need, we took part in the Joe Wicks themed projects to improve our mental health.  During Anti-Bullying week, we learned how to stamp out bullying. We all wore odd socks to end the week!

On the run up to Christmas, we had lots of fun! Christmas dinner day was fantastic because the food was delicious and we all wore our Christmas jumpers!

Sycamores (Y5) and Oaks (Y6) have produced some excellent Remembrance Day art work.

Sycamores created soldier silhouettes on painted poppy backgrounds, and Oaks used charcoal to draw some powerful images.

Sycamores Autumn Term 1st half

23rd October 2020G Mills

Since Sycamores came back to school in September, their topic has been “The Vikings”.
As part of their history work, they researched Viking longships to produce group posters. Then, in DT, they designed and made model longboats.

Sycamores Lockdown!

16th July 2020G Mills

During lockdown, Sycamores have worked so hard on their home learning! They have continued to improve their reading, writing and maths! They have also worked hard on their foundation subjects, including history, science, art and geography!

As lockdown began to ease, many children began exploring their local area by visiting the beach and going for walks.
