Acorns enjoyed finding out about how a bakery works, and using what we learned to set up a cake shop role play area in our classroom. We visited a local cake shop, where we had cakes and drinks, and at the end of our topic we invited parents and carers in for an afternoon tea, which we planned ourselves! It was lots of fun.
Throughout May we have enjoyed reading ‘Tiddler’ by Julia Donaldson – we retold the story verbally and written, we discussed the characters feelings based on their facial expressions and we created our own version of a Tiddler story using lots of fantastic openers, adjectives and verbs!
In History and Geography we have been exploring prehistoric animals and some of the children really impressed the teachers with their prehistoric knowledge. We also looked at the 7 continents and the different animals that live in each.
We enjoyed a visit to Jesmond Dene to see the animals at Pets Corner and we all enjoyed playing lots of games and exploring in the forests and river.
Lots of our time in Blue Group has been spent working very hard practising for Fellgate’s Got Talent, with ‘FABBA’ getting through to the final. All of the staff are very proud of the children for their hard work and commitment to learning their routine and performing as well as children showing their support for their friends!
This term we have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians. The children have learned how to not only use a timeline but also how to organise events using a timeline. We have also, through our literacy, enjoyed writing from the perspective of the Egyptian Cinderella and have produced some fantastic diary writing.
One of the children’s favourite lessons was when we mummified Liam and then used this to write our own set of instructions on the mummification process. We have also made our own pyramids and have designed our very own death masks.

This term we will be preparing our class to do their SATS. These tests are an opportunity to demonstrating the children’s learning, not only from year 6, but from their time in primary school.
During our lessons, we will be learning about great achievements in history and challenging ourselves to think about what we want to achieve in school and in our lives now and after primary school.
We will be learning about how people have overcome challenges and why we still talk about some achievements now.
In summer term we will be starting our summer enterprise to raise money for our leaver’s hoodies: making healthy ice lollies to sell during the hot, summer months.
This term is really about celebrating our time in primary school, having fun and creating some memories as we prepare for secondary school.
