In Lemons Class we love our twice weekly PE sessions with Adam form AJ Sports. Over the past term we have enjoyed developing our listening skills and being able to follow a short set of instructions. We can travel in different ways over obstacles and have been working on our balancing skills. We are now focusing on using our feet to control a ball control and aiming at a target.
Every Friday afternoon, Acorns and Oaks meet up for a ‘Buddy Reading’ session. It is a lovely time of the week when the youngest and oldest children in the school can share and enjoy books together, and learn from each other.
At Fellgate we know how important it is for our children to be in school learning every day. Alongside our 100% and Amazing Attendance Certificates, we also award a prize to the class with the best overall attendance each half-term. The children love to find out which classes are getting points each week and to watch their class names move further along our ‘points board’ – a class gets 4 points for 100% attendance that week!
Get Up, Get In, Get On!
This week in Acorns we have been learning about animals and other things we find on farms. We set up a farm shop with fruits and vegetables, and each day we have been paying for our fruit using 1p, 2p and 5p coins. We had to find the right combination of coins to make the amount to buy our snack.
We are proud to be a National School Breakfast Programme
school.
We are happy to offer a healthy breakfast to all our children
and we would welcome your child to join us for a great start
to the day.
Our breakfast starts at: 7.45am in the Main School and 8.30am in the Base.
We offer: cereal, toast and bagels.
All children can enjoy a free bagel when they arrive at school.

This week in Willows the children have started their new science topic; sound.
They began an investigation into what sounds can be heard in different areas of the school. Before they began their sound walk, they chose what areas they were going to visit and made predictions of what sounds they might hear.
Willows were told about their final project for the end of this unit; they are going to design and make their own ear defenders! They will be finding out about the most suitable materials for muffling sound.
Let’s get investigating!
Children in Blueberries and Plums had a fantastic opportunity to work with an artist at The Baltic and create their own exhibition. Over 3 sessions the children used skills such as moulding, paper mache, using cocktail sticks and shredded paper to create fur and using a hole punch to create scales, as well as many other techniques.
We all enjoyed attending the grand opening and seeing the artwork on the wall! Thank you to all parents and carers who joined us.
The exhibition is fantastic and is available to visit on level 2 of The Baltic until January.
This half term we have been learning all about dinosaurs. We came into school to find a dinosaur nest and large footprints in our classroom! We had to write a letter to the National History Museum to discover what dinosaur was in our school. They replied with the shocking news that 5 species of dinosaurs were roaming around Fellgate!
In DT we made poppy cupcakes for Remembrance Day. We had to roll, cut and shape icing to place on top of a cake. We also practised our measuring skills and made Christmas tree decorations using lolly sticks.
In Science we have been learning about the fossilisation process. We sequenced and described how dinosaur fossils were made. We went on a visit to Winter Gardens to look at some real fossils, bones and teeth. We then made dinosaur headbands and went on a dinosaur trail around the gardens.
Some children attended Temple Park for an athletics competition where we used lots of skills we have been learning in our PE lessons with coach Adam. Such as a variety jumping, aiming and throwing.
In Music we have been learning to play Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas on the keyboard. We followed sheet music and played the correct keys. We also had lots of fun learning our Christmas nativity songs and performed Santa’s Hat in front of all our parents and carers.
In RE we have been learning all about Christianity and why light is important at Christmas. To help us we made Christingles and described what each element stood for.
Just some of our learning! Another busy and fun filled half term!
As part of our Volcanoes and Earthquakes Geography topic the children spent the afternoon working in pairs to paint their paper mache volcanoes. They studied photographs of real life volcanoes and used their knowledge of the subject and their Art skills to paint their own volcanoes.
This term, Oaks have been looking at helping our community and learning about a local community charity, Hebburn Helps, a foodbank which provides local families with vital, everyday supplies. It was interesting to consider others and think about how some people find providing their families with food a struggle. Collectively, we decided, after researching and doing writing activities, to do something to help.
We came up with the idea of a reverse advent, where instead of receiving gifts or chocolate each day in December, we would choose to bring something in to give to this fantastic charity. Our donations ranged from toothbrushes, pillows, blankets and canned food among many other things.
Towards Christmas, one of the co-founded from Hebburn Helps came into school to look at our hard work and collect the donations. She was overwhelmed with the support and told us first hand how our collection would be used, which moved us all.
We agreed that we would arrange a trip to Hebburn Helps in the future as it was something the children were really interested in.
I was extremely proud of the children and we appreciated the support from all parents involved.
