A Great First Week Back

10th November 2022A Hearn

We have had a great first week back in Maples. The children have enjoyed some Halloween and Bonfire Night activities. We continued learning new sounds in phonics including ck, wh, ey, ng and ee. In Maths the children have been working hard on their own individual targets.

During PHSE the children have been using facial expressions to see how a person is feeling and linking it back to Zones of Regulation. “He is happy, he is in the green zone.”

During PE the children travelled to different coloured corners and could only travel across the hall floor by moving from one hoop to another.

On Friday, we enjoyed integration with our friends from Hawthorns and created firework pictures using Purple Mash and then made chocolate sparklers using breadsticks, chocolate and sprinkles. A lovely week!

Halloween Fun in Maples

10th November 2022A Hearn

The children in Maples had lots of fun for Halloween. They began the morning by completing some phonics and Halloween maths  work including  ordering numbers, repeating patterns and finding one more and one less. On the afternoon, the children decorated some spooky Halloween Monster Face biscuits. Using their knowledge of Zones of Regulations, they could identify how different pumpkins were feeling based on their facial expressions and say which zone they were in. For example, the pumpkin is sad, he is in the blue zone. We finished the day by enjoying the story, Room on the Broom.

A spooktacular day!

In Maples this Week…

10th October 2022A Hearn

03.10.22- 07.10.22

We have had another great week in Maples. The children have continued to recognise their phase 2, 3 and 5 sounds. We are really impressed with their sound recognition, blending and writing of words. In Maths the children have worked hard on their individual targets, including ordinal numbers, recognition and place value of numbers as well as telling the time to the hour. In Science, we identified what humans need to survive and enjoyed PE where the children followed instructions to move different parts of their bodies. In Art we used clay blocks to colour mix primary colours.

Awards:
Star of the Week: BeSh for always smiling when completing his 1-1 activities and making his friends smile and always be happy.
Player of the Session: JeLa for following instructions really well during PE.

Maples had a fantastic time at the beach! We went searching for large rocks to build a shelter, went searching for creatures in the rock pools and completed some challenges on the sand. We found lots of different creatures including a crab and a large fish! We finished off our session by roasting marshmallows and making s’mores.

Wonderful Writing

3rd January 2021E Kincaid

This half term Maples class have been working very hard on their writing skills. They read lots of stories, created story maps to help them retell the story then changed parts such as characters, settings and events to create their own fantastic version. They tried very hard to use the sounds that they know to help them with their writing, made sure every sentence had a capital letter and full stop and tried to use some exciting adjectives in their writing. Fabulous job Maples!

Marvellous Maples!

3rd November 2020E Kincaid

We have had a very busy first half term in Year 1! In English we have been learning about traditional tales. We drew story maps, practised telling the story to our friends and even created our own actions to help us before we wrote our own stories.
