Seeing coverage of upsetting world events in the news, online or on social media can be distressing for children, especially in today’s 24-hour news cycle. But there are things parents can do to help children make sense of them.

Helping Your Child Cope with Media Coverage of Traumatic Events
The children in Lemons class have had lots of fun during World Book Day. They dressed up as their favourite book characters and looked fantastic. We enjoyed sharing and recreated the story of The Gigantic Turnip using small world characters. We then shared reading books and enjoyed an interactive story. Such a fun day all round.
We work hard and play hard in Apples class! This half term has seen the children do some fantastic phonics, writing, counting, cutting, playing, pasting, drawing, dancing … and everything else in between. Most importantly, the children have made fantastic progress on working and playing alongside each other, taking turns and sharing resources. Their teachers and parents are very proud of them!

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR PARENTS
9am until 9pm opening hours for South Tyneside Urgent Care for Children service
With effect from Monday 7 March, the nurse-led service at South Tyneside District Hospital will be open every day from 9am until 9pm. The temporary change has been necessary due to unforeseen staffing challenges. Parents are being reassured that the service will continue to be available for 12 hours every day to see and treat the vast majority of children who attend hospital with urgent, but not life threatening, problems.
The temporary change means the service will open one hour later at 9am (instead of 8am) and close one hour earlier each day at 9pm (instead of 10pm). Please see attached updated NHS information leaflet.
Oaks (Y6), Sycamores and Chestnuts (Y5) have been to Thurston (the South Tyneside Outdoor Activity Centre) in The Lakes.
All children (and staff) had an amazing week! They did lots of exciting things including: canoeing, tree climbing, orienteering, exploring a disused mine, walking up mountains, ghyll scrambling and much much more!

As part of World Book Day, the children from Oranges and Plums enjoyed sharing books and reading stories together.
The children have had lots of fun during World Book Day. They dressed up as their favourite book characters,
We enjoyed a lovely shared reading session with some of our friends from Plums.
We read one of our favourite stories, ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and completed some fun activities about this story. These activities included practicing our cutting skills, sequencing the story and completing repeating patterns using the characters.
