Oaks Lockdown Activities

30th June 2020S Graham

Just look at all the things we have been doing during Lockdown. There are almost too many to count!

Some highlights include:

Making a pond from scratch

Baking Thurson’s secret flapjacks

Becoming a big sister to twins!

Finally earning Black Karate Reader bands!

Sending each other letters (including your teacher)

Rescuing a blind hamster (now called Rainbow)

Doing the Great North Solo challenge

and so, so, so, so many more…

Thank you for all the amazing messages, pictures, hard work and effort you have shown during lockdown. You make me proud to be your teacher.

Mr Graham

Buddy Reading

20th January 2020A Malone

Every Friday afternoon, Acorns and Oaks meet up for a ‘Buddy Reading’ session. It is a lovely time of the week when the youngest and oldest children in the school can share and enjoy books together, and learn from each other.

Helping our community- Hebburn Helps

7th January 2020S Graham

This term, Oaks have been looking at helping our community and learning about a local community charity, Hebburn Helps, a foodbank which provides local families with vital, everyday supplies. It was interesting to consider others and think about how some people find providing their families with food a struggle. Collectively, we decided, after researching and doing writing activities, to do something to help.

We came up with the idea of a reverse advent, where instead of receiving gifts or chocolate each day in December, we would choose to bring something in to give to this fantastic charity. Our donations ranged from toothbrushes, pillows, blankets and canned food among many other things.

Towards Christmas, one of the co-founded from Hebburn Helps came into school to look at our hard work and collect the donations. She was overwhelmed with the support and told us first hand how our collection would be used, which moved us all.

We agreed that we would arrange a trip to Hebburn Helps in the future as it was something the children were really interested in.

I was extremely proud of the children and we appreciated the support from all parents involved.

Thanksgiving!

7th January 2020S Graham

As part of our topic: The USA we have been learning about the history of Thanksgiving and comparing how people celebrate it nowadays. We took the time to socialise and appreciate things in our lives which we were grateful for. We realised that there were so many things to be thankful for and that we sometimes take things for granted. It was superb way to end our interesting topic by reflecting on our learning and being with our friends.
