This half term our topic has been Coastlines.
In Literacy we have been recapping our phase 2 sounds and beginning to recognise our phase 3 sounds. The children have worked very hard blending the sounds in order to read words.
In Maths the children have been practising their counting skills and applying this to solve problems. We have introduced addition and subtraction using both concrete resources and number lines and have recorded amounts using tallies and then as numerals.
In Geography the children have been learning what a globe is and what it represents. They have investigated world maps to see what countries they can find. We looked more closely at the United Kingdom and were able to label the four nations of the UK and the three seas which surround it. We then looked at compass points and could practically move ourselves in different directions and then apply this to a simple map.

In Cookery we have been following instructions to make a variety of different cakes, biscuits and mini pizzas. The children worked hard following recipes and could explain where things are put in order for them to set (fridge) or be cooked (oven).
In Science we have been learning about everyday materials. The children have discovered that materials can be made from different things including rock, wood, metal, plastic and glass. They sorted different materials based on their properties such as hard, soft, smooth and bumpy. We also made predictions about which materials could be squeezed, twisted, could bend and stretch.
A fantastic half term of learning for our amazing Oranges!
