December News

24th January 2019Mr M Hamilton

Our topic this term has been ‘Animal Adventures’. We have loved learning about different animals from around the world and have found out some really interesting facts. We had a lovely trip to Pets at Home where we learned all about rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs, and even got to hold some.

Our biggest surprise was a special visitor when we were reading ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’!

Our topic next term will be ‘Back in Time’.

December News

24th January 2019Mr M Hamilton

Our topic this half term has been ‘Frozen’, continuing on from our ‘Disney’ topic. The children have enjoyed reading Frozen, The Snow Queen and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. We have learnt lots about the Artic and different animals that live there and even took part in a workshop at The Great North Museum. In our literacy lessons we have been working on using adjectives and using apostrophes to describe wintery scenes and the characters from the stories we have been reading in class. We were also given the opportunity to visit a snow pit for lots of snow fun…

The children have also produced some amazing homework this half term, some great 3D models and research

Our topic next half term will be ‘Exciting Explorers’

Shoebox Appeal

By l Mitchinson11th November 2015

Before half term, Purple Group decided that they would like to fill a shoebox for a child who wouldn’t get anything for Christmas this year. We spent some of the money we had raised from a sponsored walk and managed to fill two shoeboxes – one for a boy and one for a girl. It was quite difficult to choose things that someone else would like, but we did a good job. The shoeboxes are now all carefully wrapped and ready to send. We are looking forward to finding out where our shoeboxes get sent to.

Fun with Maples

By A Hearn19th October 2015

When we went to Beamish we went down the Pit, it was very dark and scary.

When we were down the Pit the man told us lots of interesting facts like children used to work down the pit from the age of 3!

Maples oct 2015 272

We had some time in the school playground playing with metal hoops. just like the Victorian children would have!

Maples oct 2015 299

We went to the farm and pretended to be children who had been sent to the countryside away from the bombs in World War 2. We were writing letters home to our parents.

Maples oct 2015 306

We pretended we had been signed up in the army. We had great fun learning to march.

Fun in Cherries

By A Hearn19th October 2015

On our trip to Beamish, we had lots of fun pretending to be soldiers.

We travelled on a tram to see all the sights at Beamish.

IMG_3197[1]

We travelled down the mines and found our own coal to bring back to Cherries class.

SDC18335

We visited an old fashioned school and some of us even had to stand in the corner for being naughty!

SDC18366

We made our own ice-cream. It didn’t turn out quite as expected and we had lots of laughs at the custard-like results.

SDC18495

We had lots of fun making our own scented play-dough. Our classroom smelt of lemon, caramel and mint for days! We loved it!

SDC18468

We learnt poetry by heart and then performed it to our Maples friends. We did such a super job!

SDC18580

Even in the rain, we get lots of work done in Cherries! We went on a plant hunt and found lots of garden and wild plants.
