Every Friday afternoon, Acorns and Oaks meet up for a ‘Buddy Reading’ session. It is a lovely time of the week when the youngest and oldest children in the school can share and enjoy books together, and learn from each other.

This week in Acorns we have been learning about animals and other things we find on farms. We set up a farm shop with fruits and vegetables, and each day we have been paying for our fruit using 1p, 2p and 5p coins. We had to find the right combination of coins to make the amount to buy our snack.
Today in Acorns we invited our families in for a ‘Festive Fun’ session. We had the challenge of building a Christmas tree from recycled materials. Everyone worked well together and we had lots of fun. The tree looks amazing! Afterwards we had festive refreshments and listened to some Christmas music.
Thank you to all our families who attended, it was lovely to see you all!
In Acorns we have been exploring a range of tools and how they are used. We have practised our skills using hammers, saws, screwdrivers and wrenches. We also used sandpaper to smooth off rough edges. It’s important to be safe when using tools so we were very careful. We hope to use our skills to make some items out of wood.
As the weather changes and becomes colder, we were concerned about what the birds would eat over Winter. We decided to make some bird cakes out of seeds and fat, and put them out for the birds to enjoy. They were eaten really quickly! The birds must have really enjoyed them!
Acorns enjoyed finding out about how a bakery works, and using what we learned to set up a cake shop role play area in our classroom. We visited a local cake shop, where we had cakes and drinks, and at the end of our topic we invited parents and carers in for an afternoon tea, which we planned ourselves! It was lots of fun.
In Acorns, the children collected 2D and 3D shapes to make this fabulous display. We talked about the features and properties of the shapes and linked this to real-life objects. As part of a homework challenge, the children also brought in shapes they had found at home. Then we wrote our own labels!
Well done to our Acorns for doing their homework and coming up with some brilliant ideas for their own story. Here is just one example, by Harley, of the fantastic work done by our little people!
